    TREASURES FROM GOD’S WORD

A couple in the ministry stand in front of an apartment building on a street full of pedestrians. A woman across the street looks over at them as she walks by.

    1. “Perhaps They Will Take Notice”

    (10 min.)

Jehovah told Ezekiel to prophesy to a rebellious people (Eze 12:1, 2; w22.11 2-3 ¶2-4)

Jehovah hoped that some would notice Ezekiel’s prophetic actions (Eze 12:3-6)

Ezekiel faithfully obeyed Jehovah and prophesied “right before their eyes” (Eze 12:7; rr 63, ftn.)

FOR MEDITATION: How can knowing that people see the way we conduct ourselves help us remain positive regardless of how they respond to our message?

    2. Spiritual Gems

Ezekiel reflects on the righteous examples of Noah, Daniel, and Job

      1. Jehovah Appreciates Your Efforts to Do What Is Right

      (10 min.)

Jehovah inspired Ezekiel to highlight Daniel’s excellent reputation (Eze 14:14, 20)

      Daniel displayed righteousness from his youth on (w18.02 5 ¶11-12; w16.03 5 ¶6-7)

Jehovah blessed Daniel and used him mightily (w18.02 5 ¶13)

ASK YOURSELF: ‘How does Jehovah feel about my efforts to do what is right?’—Pr 21:3.

Do you have a strong sense of Christian identity? Knowing who you are and what you believe can help you to stand up for your beliefs and to face challenges successfully while you are young. (Ro 12:2) How can you develop a strong Christian identity?

Read Galatians 6:4. Then ask the audience:

        TREASURES FROM GOD’S WORD

Two elderly brothers walking in a park. One brother offers a sincere apology as the other listens attentively.

When we take steps to forgive others, we imitate Jehovah—the greatest Forgiver

        1. “I Will . . . No Longer Feel Offended”

        (10 min.)

Israel had deeply offended Jehovah (Eze 16:26)

Jehovah did not want to remain angry with his people forever (Eze 16:42; rr 167 ¶15)

Jehovah made it possible for the Israelites to have a good relationship with him again (Eze 16:62, 63; w25.02 4 ¶8-9)

        (15 min.) Discussion.

Have you ever shared the Kingdom message with someone, but then you forgot to exchange contact information or make an appointment to continue the conversation at a later time? That happens to all of us from time to time. That is why it is good to remind ourselves why we make return visits and how we can do so effectively.a

Read 1 Corinthians 3:6. Then ask the audience:

        • How do we show that we genuinely care about those who express a measure of interest in the Kingdom message?

        • How did the sister in the video adjust her approach to making return visits?

        • Why is making return visits worth our every effort?—Ec 11:6

GOAL: Try to apply the points found in the box “How to Make Effective Return Visits” with each person you meet in the ministry in the next few weeks.

How to Make Effective Return Visits

        • Before leaving the initial call, make definite plans to return. Keep the appointment.—Mt 5:37

        • Leave a question, based on your conversation, that you can answer next time

        • Ask Jehovah to help make the interest grow

        • Follow up in person or by letter, phone call, text message, or email

        • Greet the person by name. Remind him why you have returned

        • Be friendly and respectful. Try to relax

A father patiently listens to his teenage son express himself.

Like a loving but firm father, Jehovah balances firmness for what is right with tender compassion toward his children when they make mistakes

          1. We Are Accountable to Jehovah for Our Actions

          (10 min.)

Jehovah holds us accountable for our actions once we know what is right and what is wrong (Eze 18:4; w10 3/15 28 ¶2)

He does not hold us responsible for the actions of others (Eze 18:14-20; w13 1/15 15 ¶18)

Jehovah’s justice moves him to seek to save people, not condemn them (Eze 18:21-23; cl 117 ¶21-22)

          (15 min.) Discussion.

A deaf brother in the hospital communicates in sign language with a brother who came to support him.

When we face health challenges, we can count on Jehovah to support us. Consider a few ways that Jehovah ‘shows his strength’ in behalf of those who are sick.—2Ch 16:9.

Elders who serve on Hospital Liaison Committees (HLC) are trained to offer timely assistance. They can help us find a cooperative doctor and provide him with information on strategies to avoid a blood transfusion. If needed, they can even arrange doctor-to-doctor consultation.

In order to help local elders support hospitalized Witness patients in large cities, the HLC may appoint a Patient Visitation Group (PVG). Elders in PVGs focus on providing emotional and spiritual support to those who are sick.—Isa 32:1, 2.

Read Acts 20:28. Then ask the audience:

          • What is one reason why congregation elders take an interest in our welfare?

          • When facing a health challenge, what can we do to benefit from the elders’ support?

Play the VIDEO ‘Jehovah Will Sustain You on Your Sickbed.’ Then ask the audience:

            7. How to Maintain Our Zeal for the Ministry

            (15 min.) Discussion.

We know that preaching the good news is the greatest work being done on earth. We also know that our efforts in the ministry help to defend Jehovah’s good reputation. (Isa 43:10) For these reasons, we feel honored to preach and teach the truth to others.

But we may struggle to remain zealous in the ministry. Why might that happen? What can help us maintain or even increase our zeal for the preaching work?

With Jehovah’s help, we can remain morally clean in any situation

              1. Remain Morally Clean in a Morally Corrupt World

              (10 min.)

Israel was morally corrupt throughout the nation—from the rulers down to the common people (Eze 22:6-12; rr 59 ¶19)

The world we live in is full of moral uncleanness (rr 60 ¶20)

              7. Don’t Let Anything Prevent You From Serving Jehovah With a Clean Conscience

              (15 min.) Discussion.

The brother from the preceding image happily sings during a congregation meeting.

In spite of our imperfection, we can find deep joy in serving God with a clean conscience

We would like to be able to serve Jehovah without making mistakes. Sadly, that is beyond our ability right now. (Ro 7:18) Nevertheless, Jehovah has provided the ransom so that our sins can be forgiven. (1Co 6:11) No matter what we have done, Jehovah will forgive us if we repent, change, and ask for forgiveness based on faith in Jesus’ shed blood. (1Jo 1:7, 9) If we have committed a serious sin, we should also ask the elders for help. (Jas 5:14-16) What a relief to know that Jehovah has provided everything we need to serve him with a clean conscience!—Heb 10:22.

The Israelites broke Jehovah’s heart and brought reproach upon him

                1. Learn From the Illustration of Oholah and Oholibah

                (10 min.)

Jehovah used two figurative sisters to illustrate how his people betrayed him (Eze 23:4, 5, 11; rr 166, box 15A ¶1-2)

Oholah and Oholibah do not prefigure Christendom (rr 166, box 15A ¶3-4)

The illustration reveals how Jehovah feels about those who misrepresent him and his standards (rr 166, box 15A ¶5; 168 ¶16)

                  (10 min.)

The Ammonites, Moabites, and Edomites were related to the Israelites (Eze 25:2, 8, 12; rr 72-74 ¶5-8)

Although many from those nations treated the Israelites with “utter scorn,” some became loyal worshippers of Jehovah (Eze 25:6; rr 74 ¶10)

We can learn practical lessons on how to deal with unbelieving relatives from Israel’s dealings with surrounding nations (rr 74-75 ¶11-13)
