A group of exiled Israelites leaving Babylon.

There is no one like Jehovah (Isa 46:9; w20.06 5 ¶14)

        7. Our Only Reliable Source of Help

        (7 min.) Discussion.

When we experience problems, the only completely reliable Source of help is our God, Jehovah.—Heb 13:5, 6.

Read Psalm 55:22. Then discuss the following situations with the audience.

Collage: Brothers and sisters facing trials. 1. A downhearted brother sits outside on a set of stairs after he loses his job. 2. An imprisoned brother is interrogated by an officer. 3. A sister at a hospital prays silently at her sick husband’s bedside. 4. A couple in distress after surviving a natural disaster.

For each situation, write down one way to demonstrate trust in Jehovah and one way that he sustains us.

        • We lose our job or struggle to support our family financially

        • The authorities restrict our activity

        • We experience serious health problems

        • We experience a tragedy, such as a natural disaster or the death of a loved one

          (10 min.)

Jehovah teaches his servants (Isa 48:17; it “Teacher, Teaching” ¶2)

We must choose to pay attention to Jehovah (Isa 48:18a; ijwbq article 44 ¶2-3)

Then our peace will become “like a river” and our righteousness “like the waves of the sea” (Isa 48:18b; lv 199 ¶8)

A sister walking along the beach as the sun sets.

DEFINITION: The Hebrew word rendered “peace” can convey the idea of health, safety, soundness, welfare, friendship, and entirety or completeness.

          7. Benefit From the Most Important Day of the Year

          (15 min.) Discussion.

Our attendance at the Memorial each year allows us to demonstrate our obedience to Jesus’ command and express our appreciation for Jehovah’s gift of the ransom. (Lu 22:19) However, it is also an occasion when we are reminded of how much Jehovah and his Son love us. (Ga 2:20; 1Jo 4:9, 10) How can we benefit fully from this provision from Jehovah? How can we help interested ones to do so?

          • Prepare by considering portions of the Memorial Bible reading each day

          • Meditate on the gift of the ransom and on how to live in a way that shows appreciation for it

          • Have a full share in the campaign by inviting acquaintances, relatives, and those from the territory to the special talk and the Memorial

          • Welcome visitors to the Memorial with a warm smile and a friendly greeting. While giving special attention to those you personally invited, be alert to help those who have responded to the invitation campaign, and invite them to sit with you

          • Be available to answer visitors’ questions

          • Be alert to welcome those who are inactive. Elders will especially be alert to welcome those who were once Jehovah’s Witnesses

A scene from the video: “Jesus ‘Came to Seek and to Save What Was Lost.’” Brothers and sisters at a Kingdom Hall on the night of the Memorial, warmly conversing with one another.

Play the VIDEO Jesus “Came to Seek and to Save What Was Lost.” Then ask the audience:

          • What did you learn about the importance of warmly welcoming inactive ones to the Memorial?

A scene from the video: “Jesus ‘Came to Seek and to Save What Was Lost.’” An inactive sister at the Memorial, receiving a warm hug from another sister.

Imagine that you are trying to encourage a fellow Christian who is struggling to have a good routine of personal study and daily Bible reading. He brings up the following obstacles. For each one, write down at least one practical suggestion, Scriptural principle, or publication reference that can help him.

                  • “I don’t read well”

                  • “I don’t enjoy studying”

                  • “I don’t know where in the Bible to start reading or how much to read each day”

                  • “There’s so much material! What should I try to study each week?”

                  • “My schedule is so full that it’s difficult to find time to study”

                    (15 min.) Discussion.

Without Jehovah, people have no reliable guide, no satisfying purpose in life, and no real hope. Nonetheless, many reject the Kingdom message without knowing how much the truth would benefit them. Below are some reasons why we do not get discouraged or give up even when people do not listen.—Ec 11:6.

                    • Our territory constantly changes. Householders who were not interested may move away, and the new occupants may be willing to listen

                    • A different person may answer the door. An aged parent, a child who is now an adult, a new roommate, or a visitor may come to the door

                    • People change. (1Ti 1:13) Worsening world conditions or a personal tragedy can cause someone to be more receptive

                    • Our persistence demonstrates love for Jehovah.—Lu 6:45; 1Jo 5:3
