        Flee From Idolatry

        32:1, 4-6, 9, 10

The Israelites’ view of idol worship had apparently been influenced by Egyptian thinking. Today, idolatry can take many forms, some of which could be hard to recognize. Although we might not turn to outright idol worship, we could become idolaters by allowing selfish desires to distract us from worshipping Jehovah whole-souled.

Collage: Family members engaging in daily activities. 1. A father works overtime at a carpentry shop. 2. A son plays video games. 3. A mother buys several items at a boutique.

          LIVING AS CHRISTIANS

          Cherish Your Relationship With Jehovah

Jehovah’s Witnesses have a special privilege. As dedicated, baptized Christians, we continue to cultivate a deep, personal relationship with the Sovereign Lord Jehovah. He has drawn us to himself through his Son. (Joh 6:44) He listens to our prayers.—Ps 34:15.

How can we protect our precious relationship with God? For one thing, we must avoid the sinful course of the Israelites. Shortly after they entered into a covenant relationship with Jehovah, they made a golden calf and fell into idolatry. (Ex 32:7, 8; 1Co 10:7, 11, 14) We might ask ourselves: ‘How do I respond when confronted with temptation? Do my actions show that I cherish my relationship with Jehovah?’ Deep love for our heavenly Father will help us to flee from things that he hates.—Ps 97:10.

          • How are adultery and idolatry related?

          • Why must especially those with theocratic responsibilities be sure to care for the needs of their mate?

              Jehovah’s Endearing Qualities

              34:5-7

Appreciation for Jehovah’s qualities helped Moses to deal patiently with the Israelites. Similarly, if we deepen our understanding of Jehovah’s qualities, we can deal mercifully with fellow believers.

              • “Merciful and compassionate”: Jehovah looks after his worshippers with tender love and deep concern, just as parents look after their children

              • “Slow to anger”: Jehovah is patient with his servants, putting up with their shortcomings and giving them time to make changes

              • “Abundant in loyal love”: Jehovah forges an unfailing bond of loyal love with his people

Collage: Jehovah’s Witnesses imitating Jehovah’s qualities. 1. Two elders visit a family at their home and share Bible-based encouragement with them. 2. A sister comforts a sister who is crying.

ASK YOURSELF, ‘How can I imitate Jehovah’s mercy and compassion?’

                LIVING AS CHRISTIANS

Young Ones—Is Jehovah Your Best Friend?

What qualities do you look for in a friend? You probably value loyalty, kindness, and generosity. Jehovah displays them all. (Ex 34:6; Ac 14:17) He listens when you pray to him. He gives you a helping hand whenever you need it. (Ps 18:19, 35) He forgives your mistakes. (1Jo 1:9) What a wonderful Friend Jehovah is!

How can you be a friend to Jehovah? Learn about him by reading his Word. Confide in him. (Ps 62:8; 142:2) Show that you value things that are important to Jehovah, such as his Son, his Kingdom, and his promises for the future. Tell others about him. (De 32:3) If you cultivate a close friendship with Jehovah, he will be your Friend forever.—Ps 73:25, 26, 28.

                    35:25, 26, 30-35; 36:1, 2

Jehovah’s holy spirit equipped Bezalel and Oholiab to carry out the detailed plans for the tabernacle. Jehovah’s powerful holy spirit is also available to his servants today. How can we benefit from it?

                    • We must pray for holy spirit to heighten any abilities we have in Jehovah’s service

                    • We must diligently feed on God’s inspired Word

                    • We should pour our heart into any assignment we are given

                        37:25, 29; 38:1

The tabernacle altars were built according to Jehovah’s instructions and had special significance.

                        • The incense altar.

Like the burning of skillfully blended incense, acceptable prayers offered up by Jehovah’s servants are pleasing to him

                        • The altar of burnt offering.

Jehovah accepted sacrifices made on the altar of burnt offering. Its location in front of the sanctuary reminds us that faith in the ransom sacrifice of Jesus is necessary for acceptance by God.—Joh 3:16-18; Heb 10:5-10

Special Campaign in November to Publicize God’s Kingdom

‘The Watchtower’ No. 2 2020 entitled ‘What Is God’s Kingdom?’

Jesus declared “the good news of the Kingdom of God.” (Lu 4:43) He also taught people to pray for that Kingdom. (Mt 6:9, 10) During November, we will make a special effort to publicize God’s Kingdom. (Mt 24:14) Arrange your schedule to have a full share in this campaign. All those serving as auxiliary pioneers may choose a 30- or 50-hour requirement for this month.

Share a scripture regarding God’s Kingdom with as many people in your territory as possible. When selecting a scripture, take into account the religious background of your listeners. If someone expresses interest on the initial call, give him a copy of the public edition of The Watchtower No. 2 2020. Then follow up on the interest as soon as possible, and try to start a Bible study using a publication from our Teaching Toolbox. Limited time is left before God’s Kingdom crushes all authority in opposition to it. (Da 2:44; 1Co 15:24, 25) Therefore, may we take full advantage of this special opportunity to show our allegiance to Jehovah and his Kingdom!

Jesus sitting on his throne in heaven, ruling as King over the Paradise earth.

God’s Kingdom will bring Paradise to the earth!
