        A Covenant That Affects You

        12:1-3; 13:14-17

        • Jehovah made a covenant with Abraham, which formed the legal foundation of the Kingdom of the heavens

        • The covenant apparently went into effect in 1943 B.C.E. when Abraham crossed the Euphrates River on his way to Canaan

        • The covenant remains in effect until the Messianic Kingdom destroys God’s enemies and brings blessings to all the families of the earth

Jehovah blessed Abraham for his great faith. If we demonstrate faith in Jehovah’s promises, what blessings await us as a result of the Abrahamic covenant?

What Can You Learn From the Original Songs?

What are some of your favorite original songs? Why? Do you find that the video content relates to everyday life? With such a variety of themes and music styles, there is something for everyone. Nevertheless, the original songs and music videos are more than entertainment.

Each original song teaches practical lessons that we can apply in our Christian life and ministry. Some songs focus on hospitality, unity, friendship, courage, love, or faith. Others deal with returning to Jehovah, showing forgiveness, maintaining daily integrity, and pursuing spiritual goals. There is even an original song about the balanced use of cell phones. What other practical lessons have you found in the original songs?

              Jehovah Renamed Abram and Sarai—Why?

              p. 4

              TREASURES FROM GOD’S WORD | GENESIS 15-17

              Jehovah Renamed Abram and Sarai—Why?

              17:1, 3-5, 15, 16

Jehovah viewed Abram as faultless before Him. When he expanded on his promise to Abram, he gave Abram and Sarai names with prophetic meaning.

True to their names, Abraham became the father of many nations and Sarah became an ancestress of kings.

              • Abraham.

                Abraham

                Father of a Multitude

              • Sarah.

Collage: A young sister making spiritual progress. 1. She is getting baptized. 2. She is fulfilling an assignment on the midweek meeting. 3. She is showing a woman a video while in the field ministry.

We cannot choose the name given to us at birth. But like Abraham and Sarah, we can establish our own reputation. Ask yourself:

              • ‘How can I be viewed by Jehovah as faultless?’

              • ‘What kind of name am I making with Jehovah?’

How Couples Can Strengthen Their Marriage

Abraham and Sarah are a good example of marriage mates who loved and respected each other. (Ge 12:11-13; 1Pe 3:6) Nevertheless, their marriage was not perfect, and they had to endure trials in life. What can married couples learn by considering the example of Abraham and Sarah?

Communicate with each other. Respond humbly to words spoken in frustration or irritation by your mate. (Ge 16:5, 6) Arrange to spend time together. By words and actions, assure your mate of your love. Above all things, keep Jehovah in your marriage by studying, praying, and worshipping together. (Ec 4:12) Strong marriages honor Jehovah, the Originator of this sacred arrangement.

                • In the dramatization, what were some signs that Shaan and Kiara were growing apart?

                • Why is honest, open communication vital in a marriage?

                • How did the example of Abraham and Sarah help Shaan and Kiara?

                • What steps did Shaan and Kiara take to strengthen their marriage?

                • Why must a husband and wife not expect perfection in their marriage?

Collage: Scenes from the video ‘How to Strengthen the Marriage Bond.’ Shaan and Kiara take steps to strengthen their marriage. 1. They are sitting at opposite ends of a couch. 2. They are clasping each other’s hands. 3. They are happily working together in the field ministry.

                    18:23-25, 32; 19:24, 25

What do we learn from Jehovah’s actions regarding Sodom and Gomorrah?

                    • Jehovah will not indefinitely tolerate wickedness

                    • Those who survive the coming judgment will be those who pay attention to God’s will and do it.—Lu 17:28-30

A young brother rejecting offers from non-Witnesses to join them in drinking, smoking, and gambling.

ASK YOURSELF: ‘Does the brazen conduct of this wicked world distress me?’ (2Pe 2:7) ‘Does my daily life show that doing Jehovah’s will is most important to me?’

Are You Benefiting From Examining the Scriptures Daily?

                      LIVING AS CHRISTIANS

Are You Benefiting From Examining the Scriptures Daily?

Does your spiritual routine include reading the Bible text and comments for the day from Examining the Scriptures Daily? If not, can you make it part of your routine? Many consider the text early in the day so that they can reflect on those thoughts as they go about their daily activities. (Jos 1:8; Ps 119:97) How might you benefit even more from the Scripture text? Read the context of the Bible verse to determine the background. Try to think of a Bible account that illustrates the principle highlighted in the text. Then apply the principle to your own life. When God’s Word affects your decisions, it will direct your life and truly benefit you.—Ps 119:105.

Bethel families around the world consider Examining the Scriptures Daily at breakfast time. In recent years, many of these discussions have been posted on JW Broadcasting® under the category PROGRAMS AND EVENTS. When was the last time you reviewed one or more of them? Perhaps some of the material is exactly what you need. For instance, how might the account of Lot influence your decisions?

WATCH THE VIDEO DO NOT LOVE THE WORLD (1JO 2:15), AND THEN ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

                      • What Bible principle was the foundation for this Morning Worship discussion?

                      • How does the account of Lot illustrate the danger of loving the world or the things in it?—Ge 13:12; 14:12; 19:3, 12, 13, 24-26

                      • How do we show that we love Jehovah and not the world or the things in it?

Collage: A brother reflects on the daily text and comments throughout the day. 1. While reading, he is imagining the scene of the angels taking Lot and his family by the hand to flee Sodom. 2. While eating his lunch at his workplace, he continues to imagine what he read in the morning. 3. At home in the evening, he continues meditating on what he read in the morning as he is folding laundry.

How can I show throughout the day that I value Jehovah’s Word?

Jehovah Always Does What He Promises

                          21:1-3, 5-7, 10-12, 14

Jehovah rewarded Abraham and Sarah for their faith by giving them a son. Later, their obedience under trial showed their remarkable faith in Jehovah’s promises for the future.

How does my obedience during trials show that I trust in Jehovah’s promises for the future? How can I strengthen my faith?
