          LIVING AS CHRISTIANS

Avoid Worldly Influences When Planning a Wedding

A Christian couple who are planning their wedding have many decisions to make. They may feel pressure to imitate the lavish weddings that are the norm in their community. Well-meaning friends and family members may have their own ideas of what the wedding should include. What Bible principles will help a couple to plan for their special day in a way that will leave them with a clean conscience and no regrets?

WATCH THE VIDEO WEDDINGS THAT HONOR JEHOVAH, AND THEN ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

          • How did the following Bible principles help Nick and Juliana?

          • Why should engaged couples choose a spiritually mature Christian brother to be “the director of the feast”?—Joh 2:9, 10.

          • What were the reasons for the personal choices Nick and Juliana made for their wedding?

          • Who is responsible to make final decisions about the wedding ceremony and reception?—w06 10/15 25 ¶10.

              TREASURES FROM GOD’S WORD | 2 JOHN 1-13; 3 JOHN 1-14–JUDE 1-25

We Must Fight to Stay in the Truth

              Jude 3

A man exerts himself vigorously to get through a narrow door

Jesus admonished: “Exert yourselves vigorously to get in through the narrow door.” (Lu 13:24) Jesus’ words imply struggling, extending ourselves in order to be approved by God. Jude, Jesus’ half brother, was inspired to write something similar: “Put up a hard fight for the faith.” Diligent effort is needed to do the following:

              • Resist sexual immorality.—Jude 6, 7

              • Respect those in positions of authority.—Jude 8, 9

              • Strengthen our belief in the “most holy faith,” Christian teachings.—Jude 20, 21

                  “I Know Your Deeds”

                  1:20; 2:1, 2

                  • Two elders talk with a brother; Jesus holds the seven stars in his hand

“The seven stars”: Anointed elders and, by extension, all elders

                  • “In [Jesus’] right hand”: The stars are under Jesus’ full control, power, and direction. If someone on a body of elders needs correction, Jesus will see to it that this is done in his own time and way

                  • “The seven golden lampstands”: Christian congregations. Just as the lampstand in the tabernacle radiated physical light, Christian congregations radiate spiritual light. (Mt 5:14) Jesus “walks among” the lampstands in that he oversees the activity of all congregations

                    LIVING AS CHRISTIANS

                    Jehovah Knows What We Need

The faithful and discreet slave gives us food “at the proper time,” indicating that Jehovah, who is directing that slave, knows what we need spiritually. (Mt 24:45) Among other things, our regional conventions and the midweek meetings give evidence of that.

                    • A stadium full of convention attendees

Who should receive the praise for the timely conventions we enjoy, and why?

                    • When does work on a convention begin?

How do various departments work together to prepare the meeting workbook?

The Ride of the Four Horsemen

                        6:2, 4-6, 8

Jesus rides a white horse and has a bow in his hand; he is followed by a fiery-colored horse, a black horse, and a pale horse

Jesus “went out conquering” by warring with Satan and his demons in heaven and confining them to the earth. Jesus continues to conquer in behalf of his servants by helping and protecting them during these last days. He will “complete his conquest” when he terminates the ride of the other three horsemen at Armageddon and thereafter reverses the effects of their destructive ride.

At 2 Corinthians 9:7, we are told: “Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” Today we have convenient options to make online donations to support the work of Jehovah’s Witnesses, both locally and worldwide.
