Strip Off the Old, and Clothe Yourselves With the New

        3:5-14

A sister meditates after reading the Close to Jehovah book along with her Bible

Did you make big changes in your personality when you came into the truth? You can be sure that Jehovah was pleased by your efforts. (Eze 33:11) However, continuous effort is needed in order to prevent traits of the old personality from surfacing and to keep displaying the new personality. Answer the following questions to see areas where you can improve:

        • Am I holding a grudge against someone who has wronged me?

        • Do I show patience, even when I am in a hurry or tired?

        • If I have an immoral thought, do I dismiss it quickly?

        • Do I have negative feelings about people of another race or nationality?

        • Have I recently spoken unkindly to anyone or lost my temper?

“Keep Encouraging One Another and Building One Another Up”

            5:11-14

Every Christian has the ability to encourage others. For instance, we encourage fellow Christians when we faithfully attend meetings and share in the ministry, perhaps “amid much struggling” because of poor health or other difficulties. (1Th 2:2, ftn.) Additionally, with advance thought and maybe some research, we can speak consolingly to fellow worshippers who need encouragement.

Where can you find helpful information on how to encourage someone dealing with a specific challenge?

Whom in the congregation do you want to encourage?

The Revealing of the Lawless One

                2:6-12

What was Paul referring to in these verses?

                • Apostate Christians disrupt a meeting of the early Christian congregation

“A restraint” (vs. 6)—Likely the apostles

                • “Revealed” (vs. 6)—Following the death of the apostles, apostate Christians came into the open with their religious hypocrisy and false teachings

                • “The mystery of this lawlessness” (vs. 7)—“The lawless one” was not clearly identifiable in Paul’s day

                • A group of the clergy berate a brother who is holding a Bible

“The lawless one” (vs. 8)—Today it is the clergy of Christendom as a group

                • “The Lord Jesus will do away with [the lawless one] . . . by the manifestation of his presence” (vs. 8)—Jesus will make his heavenly presence as King manifest by executing Jehovah’s judgments on Satan’s system of things, including “the lawless one”

How do these verses encourage you to preach with zeal and a sense of urgency?

Reach Out for a Fine Work

                    3:1, 13

It is best for brothers to begin reaching out when they are young. This allows them to receive training and demonstrate their fitness to be appointed as ministerial servants when they get older. (1Ti 3:10) How can a brother reach out? By cultivating and demonstrating the following qualities:

An elder talks with a young brother as he trains him to serve in the congregation

What Can You Learn From Them?

                      LIVING AS CHRISTIANS

What Can You Learn From Them?

Are you a newly appointed ministerial servant or elder? You may have skills, abilities, or secular education that others on the servant body do not have. However, there is much that you can learn from such brothers and from spiritual men who no longer serve on the body because of limitations resulting from advancing age, health problems, or family responsibilities.

WATCH THE VIDEO RESPECT EXPERIENCED MEN, AND THEN ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

                      1. Brother Richards reads a scripture to Ben

                        1. How did Brother Richards show respect for Brother Bello?

                      2. Ben updates the territory maps

                        2. What mistake did Ben make, and why?

                      3. Brother Bello talks with Ben as they enjoy refreshments together

                        3. What did Ben learn from Elisha’s example?

                      4. 4. Whether you are a brother or a sister, how can you show respect for experienced fellow Christians and learn from them?

A girl holds a tennis racket, a boy holds a basketball, and another boy holds a baseball bat

Is physical training beneficial? Yes, but only a little in comparison to spiritual training. (1Ti 4:8) Therefore, Christians do well to take a balanced approach to sports.
