ISAIAH 41-42
Bible Reading assignment: Isa 42:1-13
w01 10/1 20 ¶3
Isaiah 41:
1 Let us come together for judgment.
2 Like windblown stubble before his bow?
3 Over paths that his feet have not traveled.
4 And with the last ones I am the same.”
5 They draw near and come forward.
6 And says to his brother: “Be strong.”
7 Then it is fastened with nails so that it will not topple over.
8 The offspring of Abraham my friend,
9 I have chosen you; I have not rejected you.
10 I will really hold on to you with my right hand of righteousness.’
11 Those who fight with you will be brought to nothing and perish.
12 The men at war with you will become as something nonexistent, as nothing at all.
13 The One saying to you, ‘Do not be afraid. I will help you.’
14 You men of Israel, I will help you,” declares Jehovah, your Repurchaser, the Holy One of Israel.
15 And make the hills like chaff.
16 And you will boast in the Holy One of Israel.”
17 I, the God of Israel, will not abandon them.
18 And the waterless land into springs of water.
19 Together with the ash and the cypress tree,
20 And the Holy One of Israel has created it.”
21 “Produce your arguments,” says the King of Jacob.
22 Or declare to us the things that are coming.
23 So that we may be amazed when we see it.
24 Anyone who chooses you is detestable.
25 Like a potter who treads moist clay.
26 No one heard anything from you!”
27 And to Jerusalem I will send a bearer of good news.
28 And I kept asking them to reply.
29 Their metal images are wind and unreality.
Isaiah 42:
1 He will bring justice to the nations.
2 And he will not make his voice heard in the street.
3 In faithfulness he will bring justice.
4 And the islands keep waiting for his law.
5 And spirit to those who walk on it:
6 And as a light of the nations,
7 And those sitting in darkness out of the prison.
8 Nor my praise to graven images.
9 Before they spring up, I tell you about them.”
10 You islands and their inhabitants.
11 Let them cry out from the top of the mountains.
12 And declare his praise in the islands.
13 He will show himself mightier than his enemies.
14 I will groan, pant, and gasp all at once.
15 And dry up reedy pools of water.
16 This is what I will do for them, and I will not abandon them.”
17 Those who say to metal statues: “You are our gods.”
18 Look and see, you who are blind.
19 So blind as the servant of Jehovah?
20 You open your ears, but you do not listen.
21 Jehovah has taken pleasure in magnifying the law and making it glorious.
22 And pillaged with no one to say: “Bring them back!”
23 Who will pay attention and listen for the time to come?
24 And His law they would not obey.
25 It blazed up against him, but he would not take it to heart.
